Microsoft’s new Xbox Project Scorpio was confirmed during the E3 2016 after being rumored for a while on the internet. According to Microsoft, this is the most powerful console ever built, equipped with the new Zen APU and Polaris based GPU.
Microsoft after confirming the development of new and high-end console, assured its current Xbox One users that there won’t be exclusives for the new Project Scorpio and all the titles and accessories for the original Xbox One will be supported with the Project Scorpio as well.
However, Microsoft’s head of Xbox games Marketing Aaron Greenberg while speaking with the Engadget did confirm that the new console will have VR exclusive games, while all the non VR games will be playable with the standard Xbox One, Xbox One S and the new Scorpio as well. According to Aaron Greenberg, the company’s plan is to treat all the current gen consoles as one eco-system and therefore, all the games and accessories will work on all the three devices, but the Project Scorpio will have VR exclusive games as this is the console capable of playing virtual reality games.
“With the power and capabilities we have, we’ll be able to do high-fidelity VR,”
“Now, that space, we don’t think of that as console gaming, we think of that as high-fidelity VR, and so with the VR experiences those will be new things that you will get on Project Scorpio.” – said Greenberg
During the interview, he was also asked whether is this the end of console generations as both the top standard consoles are getting hardware upgrades after almost three years of their release. The given by him was positive, by saying that the future of the console seems to be without generations. Microsoft plans to release the new Xbox Project Scorpio next year, probably during the Fall of 2017.
