MSI announced the launch of nothing less than five GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards. We avoid the reference model Founders Edition and turn to custom designed models which are equipped with lots of features. It is expected that some of these graphics cards will go on sale from early next month.
Table of Contents
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Aero
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Aero is built on a custom design, it is the economical version of the Founders Edition with unimpressive and attractive plastic shroud in black color. The new AERO graphics cards feature a new thermal design built around a radial fan. In terms of specifications, it consists of 2560 CUDA Cores, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs comes to a reference frequency 1607/1733 MHz.
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Armor
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Armor is also the customized variant featuring Armor 2X cooling system where we see two fans patented TORX Fan technology also found on the award winning TWIN FROZR V graphics cards, the GPU is cooled by a dense aluminum radiator traversed by at least three copper Heatpipes. This improved cooling can increase its frequencies to the 1657/1797 MHz for the OC model (there will be another model of it with reference frequencies).
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X RGB
It makes use of the new cooling system Twin Frozr VI with two TORX 2.0 fans, an enhanced version that generates 22% more air pressure with a lower noise. New fans are equipped with Double Ball Bearings to ensure lasting, smooth and silent operation. The huge heatsink features three copper heatpipes with 8 mm thick, and of course, an LED RGB lighting system. Best of all is that the PCB manufactures of Military Class 4 components, a 12 – phase power VRM (vs 5 + 1 in reference) and it requires two PCI-Express connectors 8 + 6 pins to further increase more performance by Overclocking. At the rear we have an aluminum backplate in black color. This improved cooling increase its frequencies to the 1847/1708 MHz.
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Sea Hawk
We are facing a GPU cooled through water cooling system model Corsair H55 Hydro. In terms of specifications the GPU is actually lower than the Gaming X RGB. It only includes one PCI-Express connector. Its frequencies are same as Gaming X, but it is limited in Overclocking.
“Collaborating with MSI again has been fantastic, allowing us to create the fastest, coolest, quietest NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1080 possible”Said Aaron Neal, Manager of DIY Product marketing at Corsair. “The result is a card powered by the best of MSI, and cooled by the best of Corsair – A match that results in a superb graphics card for the most demanding of systems.”
