At Computex 2018, Intel presented a new CPU of the HEDT platform (X299 / LGA2066) with a die of no less than 700 mm². This CPU brings a non-negligible configuration of 28 physical cores to the customer segment along with 56 processing threads at a base frequency of 2.70 GHz, while the Turbo frequency was not revealed by the company, although little should concern us, since Intel was able to perform a live overclocking taking the CPU up to 5.00 GHz reaching 7,334 points in the Cinebench benchmark.

For comparison, the overclocked 18-core Core i9-7980XE scores about 5000 points in this test. What kind of cooling system was used to remove heat from the 28-core “monster”, unfortunately, is not specified.

Most likely, the above 28-core processor will be included in the Cascade Lake-X family, the first information about which appeared last year. This processor will go on sale during the fourth Quarter of 2019 at a price that could exceed $ 3,000.

In addition, Intel representatives also hinted at the upcoming mass platform update. Apparently, we are talking about the eight-core Coffee Lake-S chips, the existence of which has already been confirmed by the official documents of the chip maker.
