Intel Considering Price Cut On 12th Gen Alder Lake Processors

You might not have noticed, but Intel did a price hike on its 12th-generation lineup at the start of January. The price hike from Intel did not have an impact because of retailers selling Intel 12th generation processors, which is way below what Intel has set (MSRP).

Intel is now reportedly considering lowering the price of its 12th-generation lineup. According to DigiTimes, Intel might reduce the cost of 12th-generation Alder Lake chips by up to 20%, which will be applied to all the core series chips up to the Intel i9.

A reliable source @harukaze5719 has also come up with a chart showing the 20% price cuts that Intel might consider in the future. The pricing on the chart is based on Intel’s recommended retail price and does not match the pricing of what retailers are offering for Intel’s 12th generation.

With AMD and Intel competing for the best spot, the market and demand for Intel chips have been affected quite a bit. Client business for processors is slowed down and has taken a hit, where consumers are no longer willing to upgrade to the next best thing. One reason could be no significant performance improvements over the years, plus the massive price increase between generations.

The chip manufacturer has also declared that it will be slashing the salaries of management and senior staff to make room for future investment due to a drop in revenue. Maybe we will finally see manufacturers dropping prices on CPU and GPU soon to maintain their revenue stream.
