Rockstar Games’ famous and highest rated title, the Grand Theft Auto V has successfully managed to surpass over 75 million copies across the world.
Released in 2013, GTA V remains to be a popular game of today and currently secures second spot in the UK after recently released horror-survival, Resident Evil 7. During the recent earnings call of this quarter, Rockstar Games announced that the studio has shipped 75 million copies to the retailers.
The game sales reached beyond the expectation of the studio and as of 2016, Grand Theft Auto V remained number six selling game for all the platforms, while the player engagement in Grand Theft Auto Online reached a record breaking number as of December last year, possibly due to the addition of new content. More than 15 million copies have been sold since the February 2016.
According to Take-Two Interactive,
As of December 31, 2016, we had over $1.4 billion in cash and short-term investments on our balance sheet. Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online continue to outperform our expectations as they have in every quarter since their release. Grand Theft Auto V remains the highest rated game of the current console generation and a must-have title for gamers on both console and PC with sell-in now surpassing 75 million units.
GTA V appears to be a top priority of the Rockstar Games as the developers have not abandoned the game and continue to release new content in the form of DLC for GTA Online. Seems that the studio will be supporting the title for a while and holds no plans for the next installment in the franchise at the moment.
The Grand Theft Auto V is now available for PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The game turned out to be a great achievement for Rockstar Games.
