AMD has taken time to figure out the best possible solution for the mid-range segment with a Radeon R9 380 faster than the GeForce GTX 960, and continue to dominate the market with even stronger launch of the Radeon R9 380X, this is why NVIDIA has been forced to prepare the launch of the GeForce GTX 960 Ti to reverse the situation, as even the GeForce GTX 950 has cannibalized sales thanks to the GTX 960 as the Overclocked GeForce GTX 950 perform almost same as its larger sister.

NVIDIA is preparing the Geforce GTX 960 Ti

Regarding the GeForce GTX 960 Ti for now, news is based on rumors coming but said publication has a very good track record with leak’s not to mention are reporting on something that makes sense. GeForce GTX 960 Ti OEM version will offer 1280 CUDA Cores (vs 1024) to a base frequency of 924 MHz united to 3 GB of GDDR5 memory @ 5.0 GHz (vs 2 / 4GB @ 7.0 GHz) with a memory interface of 192 bits (vs 128 bits) throwing a bandwidth of 120 GB / s (112 GB / s). The GeForce GTX 960 Ti could come in January.

Its value nothing that the GTX 960 variant with 10 SMMs is more probable on the grounds that NVIDIA as of now has a GTX 960 OEM release with 10 SMMs (1280 CUDA Cores), something it can mark as the GTX 960 Ti for the standard business sector. The OEM version of the card likewise has a 192 bit bus width (an upgrade over the 128 bit bus width provided with the mainstream 960) which makes it a totally diverse card, despite the fact that the essential classification is the same. Below you can see the comparison of both cards.

Geforce GTX 960 vs GTX 960 OEM

Geforce GTX 960 Geforce GTX 960 OEM Edition
CUDA Cores 1024 1280
Base Clock/Boost 1127 /1178 924 / (TBC)
Texture Fill Rate 72 GT/s 74 GT/s
Memory Clock 7 Gbps 5 Gbps
Memory 2 GB GDDR5 3GB GDDR5
Memory Bus Width 128 bits 192 bits
Bandwidth 112 GB/s 120 GB/s
DirectX 12 Yes Yes
Feature Level 12_1 12_1

The new card will naturally be based on the MX 2.0 architecture and will support DirectX 12 upto feature level 12_1. Since Pascal won’t be arriving before the second quarter of 2016, NVIDIA has to make sure its lineup is in tip top shape to compete against AMD.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 Ti Could Be Based on GM204

Take a look at above GM206 core block diagram which is telling us that NVIDIA has fussed a harvested GM206 chip on the GTX 960. For NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960Ti we can expect more CUDA cores. All of this points to NVIDIA using a further cut-down version of the venerable GM204 GPU to fill the huge price gap between the GTX 970 and GTX 960. From the previous Kepler era NVIDIA always go with the unlocked GPUs dies, take an example of GTX 780Ti and GTX 780 where the GTX 780ti is featuring a full GK110 and on the other side of note GTX 780 is using a harvested GK110 chip. The same case is here with the GTX 960.
