Gears of War 4 is the first game from Microsoft featuring support for Play Anywhere, a new feature that allows gamers to play either from Xbox One or Windows 10 PCs with shared achievements and game progress. Technical Director of The Coalition studio, Mike Rayner during his interview with Epic Games at E3 2016 talked about the game’s performance on both Xbox One and Windows 10, using Unreal Engine 4.
According to Rayner, the game will deliver great visuals on the Xbox One, pushing the hardware by using DirectX 12 API. While on the Windows 10 PCs, it will deliver the best experience, showing all the contents at 4K resolution depending upon the system hardware.
Here’s what he said;
“On Xbox One, we’ve been able to use the DirectX 12 API. It really allows us to push the visuals and get the most optimal performance. Then carrying that over to PC, it lets us drive for higher frame rate and push the game as far as possible.
One thing that we’re able to do with Gears of War 4 is to author all the content at 4K resolution. On Windows 10, if you got a system that can support it, you’re gonna get high resolution texture packs, a real premium 4K visual experience. On Xbox One, it’s optimized for 1080P.”
Earlier, the studio revealed that the Gears of War 4 on Windows 10 PCs will have unlocked frame rates and also, the game will include cross-play support allowing Xbox One and PC gamers to play together with single player mode, multiplayer mode and the newHorde mode. The game is set for release on October 11th, 2016 for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
