Fortnite Battle Royale has been out for a while and back in June, the game was announced for Nintendo Switch but when the players tried to login the network using their PlayStation 4 account, they couldn’t connect as Sony blocked the cross-platform feature for the handheld console.

Sony has blocked the feature in many other online games such as Rocket League with Xbox One in the past and this time, they did the same with Nintendo Switch. The company faced huge backlash from the gaming community, including PS4 users as they could not carry their game progress level, skins and achievements to the other platform.

Till date, Sony hasn’t provided any logical reason to block the cross-platform play with other consoles and lately, the company’s chief executive Kenichiro Yoshida spoke with The Independent regarding any possibility of cross-play for PS4 with Xbox One and Switch but sadly, we don’t believe that’s gonna happen anytime soon.

According to the statement of CEO Yoshida, the company believes that PlayStation 4 is the best experience for the players and it is the “best place to play”.

“On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief.

But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform.”

No doubt the company enjoys huge player base in current-gen console gaming with more than 60 million consoles being sold but feature like cross-platform play is demanded by many players, especially in the online competitive games. We still hope that Sony will look into the matter and will allow the feature in the most demanded titles.

Fortnite is available on PC, consoles, Android and iOS. Stay tuned for more updates!
