As we all know that The Witcher 3 was confirmed to be the last game from CD Projekt Red with the story of Geralt of Rivia, so most of us were wondering whether the studio will be returning to its popular franchise, The Witcher again or we should get used to new franchises like the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077.

The answer is YES, the developers will indeed return to the famous franchise with a new game but it won’t be called ‘The Witcher 4’ as the first three installment in the franchise were related to the story of Geralt and were released as a trilogy. The word was shared by CD Projekt Red’s CEO Adam Kiciński during his recent interview with the Polish website Bankier where he was asked the question about any possibility of returning to the big franchise.

It means that we will get to play as a new character in The Witcher universe as the developers have their own plans for the series. He made it clear that they will not abandon the game world which was created with a lot of effort, however, he didn’t provide any time frame for the release of new game. Here’s what he said;

“The first three Witchers were by definition a trilogy, so we simply could not name the next game The Witcher 4. This does not mean, of course, that we will leave the world of The Witcher, created by us for over a dozen years. The Witcher is one of two franchises on which to build in the future activities of the company. Today, unfortunately, I can not reveal anything more.”

Currently, the studio is working on new, anti-cipated title Cyberpunk 2077, a sci-fi game set in the future world. The looks promising as it was shown during the E3 expo last month, while the developers are yet to confirm its release date.

It is possible that we may a new Witcher game with Ciri being the lead character in the development once the Cyberpunk 2077 is released, but it is not easy to speculate something so early.

Cyberpunk 2077 is confirmed for PC, PS4, Xbox One and the release is also possible for the next generation consoles, depending on the year when it will be released. Stay tuned for more updates!
