The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced the specifications of its latest wireless protocol Bluetooth 4.2, which comes to increasing speed by 2.5 times. This is possible by increasing the capacity of packets in a factor of 10.
Bluetooth 4.2 also brings several significant improvements related to privacy, being necessary now that the user of device with Bluetooth 4.2 enabled grant a permit to any person who attempts to trace their connectivity. In addition, the updated protocol allows devices to connect to the Internet directly via IPv6, and all with lower power consumption.
New features of Bluetooth 4.2 protocol can reach existing devices with a simple firmware upgrade, although that task will fall on the manufacturers of the devices.
