For a past few months, we have seen reports of development of an upgraded and 4K capable version of both the current generation consoles, i.e., PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After being rumored on the Internet for a long time, both the companies decided to confirm the development of an upgraded console officially.

Sony’s president Andrew House during his interview confirmed that a new high-end and 4K capable console, code-named as PlayStation 4 Neo is indeed under development, while Microsoft during its E3 2016 press conference officially revealed the upgraded and 4K capable console, which is code-named as ‘Project Scorpio‘ and according to Microsoft, this is the ‘most powerful console ever built‘.

However, soon after the reports of development of the upgraded console emerged online, most of the current generation console owners were disappointed as its hardly been three years since the launch of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But some game developing companies are apparently happy and ‘excited’ for the hardware upgrades in the consoles.

Bethesda’s vice president of marketing Pete Hines during his recent interview with the Gamespot made some comments regarding the hardware changes in the consoles. He thinks that it is actually good and they are ‘big fans‘ of it. While he decided not to make any further comments related to the upcoming hardwares as more details are yet to be revealed.

I think that kind of stuff is great I mean, having more robust hardware is … We’re big fans of it.

What that does for us, I mean, right now it’s all talk, right? They’re not out and we’re still early days on it. It remains to be seen exactly what impact it has.

He also discussed that developing games for current generation and upgraded consoles would be more preferred by the developers as compared with developing for the entire different generation, such as for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, for which he used the term “…enormous pain in the ass”.

Currently, The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim: Special Edition is under development by Bethesda which is set for release on October 28th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One while on the other hand, the studio is also working on ‘three big projects‘.
