Update: With the official BIOS now in place to download, we can confirm that ASUS has only increased the fan limit to 50W. New BIOS has nothing to do with the Power Limit, so for now 450W power limit bios is available for RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra only from EVGA camp.

Following EVGA’s footsteps, ASUS also prepared new BIOS that raises the Power Limit of their ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090 and ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080, in addition to the TUF variants, up to 450W. This BIOS also reduces the minimum power consumption threshold to 50W for fans to turn on, allowing the system to be much quieter when the GPU is not being used on higher load.

With the availability of new BIOS, the most demanding Overclockers can squeeze a bit more silicon, although EVGA already made it clear that this increase in consumption might not translate into a performance improvement, so its use was more recommended to overclockers than gamers themselves.

“Due to the request of many users, you already have a new BETA BIOS that increases the Power Limit to the maximum. This BIOS is only intended for the user who wants to perform extreme overclocking and does not have any other changes. Please, keep in mind the next:

  • This update will increase power consumption during overclocking and it is recommended that you have adequate cooling and power supply when using it (850w 80 Plus Gold PSU minimum).
