Late night, AMD has announced the launch of its new graphics drivers in a special edition called AMD Catalyst Omega, which comes with improved performance and implementation of new features and technologies. AMD Catalyst Omega will be available for download from December 9, 2014

DSR vs VSR

Virtual Super Resolution (VSR) is AMD’s answer to the Nvidia  Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR).

This technology has some advantages and some disadvantages. One advantage is playing a game over the resolution of your monitor to provide improved graphic quality with superior performance to the saving of using filtering Anti-Aliasing.

The disadvantage is that many games are not optimized to run at high resolutions, at this point it would only be possible with the use of a high-end graphics from AMD side such as Radeon R9 290x, so in that case it is better to play with AA activated only.

FreeSync AMD vs Nvidia G-Sync

The new technology which is implemented is FreeSync, FreeSync technology allows you to control the dynamic refresh rate and synchronization with the graphics card from AMD Radeon or APU, making it possible to minimize the impact of the delays in displaying and reduce or even completely eliminate image artifacts while playing games and movies. The first Free-Sync monitor will arrive early  in the next year (2015), as it will be necessary to use the latest version of DisplayPort port.

Video Enhancements

AMD Catalyst Omega brings improvements in the quality of video which is concerned with new technologies such as Fluid Motion Video (improving the fluidity of the image), Detail Enhancement  (re-scale content higher resolution without losing quality) and Adaptive upscaling.

Improved performance on GPUs and APUs

These drivers promise to improve the performance of an AMD Radeon GPU by up to 19 percent  or 29% compared to the first drivers who received the APU.

5K monitor support up to 24 simultaneous monitors

Comes support monitors with a resolution 5K (5120 x 2880p @ 60 Hz) and Eyefinity is now capable of handling up to  24 monitors simultaneously.
