Just when the future of the IP was looking bright, Microsoft laid off the whole Tango Gameworks studio. However, Krafton stepped in with its promise to support the innovative and creative team.

Now, the CEO of Krafton, Kim Chang-han, has shared his beliefs regarding the awaited Hi-Fi Rush sequel, and things are not looking good. He does not believe that the rhythm-action entry will make them any money.

Why it matters: The words of the Krafton CEO suggest that Hi-Fi Rush 2 might not be happening anytime soon after all. The conglomerate has recently purchased the rights to the IP, so not all hope has been lost yet.

Speaking with Game Developer about the massive acquisition, Kim Chang-han clarified that Hi-Fi Rush 2 will not be a massive moneymaker, but it was never the focus.

 “We don’t think Hi-Fi Rush 2 is going to make us money, to be frank. But it’s part of our attempt.”

While the CEO thinks it won’t make them any money, he said it’s part of their attempt. So, he basically confirmed that the studio will work on a long-awaited sequel

Despite current rumors, Krafton may utilize the Hi-Fi Rush IP in the future.

However, Krafton never wanted to acquire Tango Gameworks for big financial numbers and successes anyway. The CEO notes that Tango Gameworks is highly creative, and they want to preserve that legacy for their future endeavors. Having unique projects in the lineup will ensure that at least one of them will work out.

The company actively purchased the IP rights to secure its future. On the flip side, the sequel may not be as big of a priority as we initially thought.
